Is there a way to change to make column list view in Finder OSX the default? It seems to remember sometimes, I want to make it stick. Help a newbie out!

Close Finder windows. Click on the Finder icon in the Dock (the face thing), select List View and close the window. Click on the face again and it should now be the default for new windows. :)

Go through each FInder part and choose column, by each part I mean Music, Movies, Apps, ect.

Then close the Finder, re-launch and it should stick if everything is on the same setting. Good luck!

Of course, follow Glenn Wolsey's excellent advice if you want to change windows that aren't new. Alternatively, I guess you could remove the Finder Preferences, restart, follow my initial method and every folder should then be List View by default.

Removing Finder Preferences involves dragging a file named com.apple.finder.plist to the Desktop. I've only ever tried this with Icon View and it worked but I've never tried it with List View. Considering Icon View is the default anyway, this may not necessarily work.

Failing that, maybe try this. :)
