Most of the websites I visit are .org or .net

I was thinking, maybe there is a better way to implement this functionality. Make the ".com" button a menu. Tap it like normal for .com, but if you push and hold, maybe a menu slides up from it on which you can then move your finger to .net or .org, then release. That would make it so much better for me at least.

What you do guys think about it?

I don't even type in .com, .net, or .org when using Safari on my powerbook, since it fills all that info in anyways. Doesn't it work the same on the iPhone? The only place I could see needing it is when typing in email addresses, most of which (for me) are .com anyways.

I don't think that it would be necessary to have a .net or .org button, because the average user probably wouldn't use it that much. The .org and .net websites I visit often are bookmarked anyways so I'm not too concerned.

.org and .net keys are just not mainstream enough to warranty a permanent space on the keyboard.

What I would LOVE to see Apple implement are several special keys that are user defined.

This doesn't seem to work for me. Sure, I type macrumors in the address bar and I get taken to www.macrumors.com but try typing in wikipedia. The browser tries to take me to www.wikipedia.com. Mind, if I first type www.wikipedia.org, then close that site and type just wikipedia I am taken to the right site.

I always type the full address - even if the it shows up from my history - so this isn't a problem for me and as a Canadian obviously the .com button on an iPhone has no relevance to me . I can see how this .com/.net/.org etc button would be useful. Although using your book marks would eliminate the problem all together.

Might not be bad to make it a toggle, but calling it useless is not fair. Maybe most of your sites are .net and .org but the overwhelming majority of people spend the bulk of their time on .com sites.

.com button is nice when i go to websites such as boards.ign.com

if i type in just boards.ign it does not find the site correctly (i believe because it attempts to find www.boards.ign.com when the site does NOT have the www at the front

It's a good idea and if you hold down the .com button now I think there's already enough extra room for Apple to implement it.
