In the random research I’ve done on and off over the last few months, I haven’t been able to find anything, so figured I’d see if anyone has knowledge.

My Mac Pro 4,1(5,1) is currently maxed out. Memory(96gb), ssd’s(6x800gb intel), CPU’s(2x5690’s), rx580 8gb, usb3 card, Blackmagic decklink card, nvme pcie card. My issue is that I’d like to regain one of the pcie slots. My thought is to find a way to combine functions in a pcie card replacement. My thought is usb/ssd card makes the most sense, so my question is is there a pcie card that contains(combines) a usb controller and nvme slot?
I’m not too worried about how many usb ports as currently I’m realistically only using one at full speed and can use a usb hub on the 2.0 ports.

The alternative is to replace the rx580 with something that’s got usbc ports which somewhat negates what I’d like to do (dual gpu).

My use case is commercial video editing, and my intent is to use a second gpu(single slot enterprise series) for some trial and error but could use that spare pcie slot for another BMD decklink card.

The "perfect" solution for you is a NETSTOR TURBOBOX NA211A PCIe Expansion enclosure (or similar PCIe Expansion solution). It has two overwhelming advantages according to your stated wishes. The 'HOST' card occupies 1 slot in the Mac Pro and gives you 3 additional PCIe slots in the external enclosure. This means your Mac Pro now has 6 full size PCIe slots - removing ALL of the constraints you are presently trying to renegotiate.

The second advantage is equally important. The external enclosure includes it's own modular PSU (250W) to power your 2nd GPU without having to give the 'PIXLAS mod' a second thought.

I have a spare one I'm willing to part with for USD 500 including shipping worldwide (I'm in Australia). USD 400 if you are an Australian buyer!

DM me if you are interested :)

My review of the McFiver
the 10GbT does not work in the Mac Pro 5,1 under Monterey but it does work with Windows 11.
