My TiBook's Combo drive only plays DVD movies, and doesn't read any other type of disk. Audio CD, Install disk, Install DVD, nothing. I can't imagine any hardware problem that would allow a movie to play but no other disk to read, but who knows.

Anyone had this happen or know how to fix it?

What happens when you stick the other kind of media in it?

The disk will go in, it will make noises like the lens is panning back and forth, the disk will stop and spin up a few times, and after about 15 seconds it will spit back out.

the noise is the same as the one that it makes when you first insert any disk. Weird hum noise I can't explain. I assume it's the lens going into it's starting position but I can't be sure. The fact that it's playing DVDs really has me stumped.

Anyone know anything about the track system with DVD movies versus data disks or audio CDs? Maybe the first track on the disk is in a different location than other disks and maybe it's stuck there or something. I dont know, but I'd really like disk burning ability again, as well as CD reading.
