For a few years I've seen posts in various forums about problems with receiving or sending mail though comcast, or even verifying accounts, even after things had previously worked fine. At long last, the problem has hit me.

Briefly, everything was fine for several years, through various IOS versions and even through a phone upgrade. Meanwhile, OSX on the laptop also has worked without a glitch.

Then, I became aware yesterday that when I sent mail from my phone it disappeared into the electronic ether, even though the mail app listed it as sent. This led to all kinds of web searching for answers, checking settings, and so on, none of which helped. Sp I deleted the account and reentered. Hears where it gets word.

When I originally entered it comcast was a POP account. It still is on my laptop and works fine. But apparently it is now an imap as far as IOS is concerned, and Apple gives you imap parameters to enter on their support page. But it doesn't work. It either says the user name or password is incorrect (if you omit the @... part) or verifies OK but neither reads existing mail or receives new mail. Switching back to POP (prefix mail before comcast instead of imap) renders it unable to connect.

What the?

As I enter this the laptop is merrily receiving new email while the phone sits silent. But I have another email account tied to my website that is functioning normally.

Two workarounds include downloading the xfinity webmail app and using that, or getting a gmail account and gradually moving over.

Any thoughts? Is Xfinity the new evil empire?

Speaking only to entering the new account, it sounds as if you don't have the correct ports set.

On most of my IMAP accounts the providers use port 993 for receiving and port 587 for sending. Both with SSL.

When you tried to reconnect your account did you set ports?

Good call, but I unfortunately had checked that and I just checked again (never hurts) and my ports are the same as yours. I also ran into another "fix" idea, changing the "description" to may email address (the mail app had automatically filled in Comcast as soon as I entered my email). While I was doing that I got an alert that an email had arrived! But it didn't show up on the mail app.

Does Comcast have any alternative email settings?

For instance, my email is with Cox. They have imap.east.cox.net and imap.west.cox.net and imap.cox.net. Either of those will work, even if you are in the west and put in east and so forth.

Sorry to cause trouble. Can you believe that I was putting in my password wrong (one extra digit)? Good grief.
LOL!!!! Well, at least you found out what the problem was!

I had to drop my accounts with Microsoft (live.com and outlook.com). I had them on multiple devices and because of that MS was always making me change passwords because it thought I was someone else. Trying to remember all those passwords was just ridiculous and gave me issues every time I tried to set up mail on another device.

So, I closed them and good riddance because I've got plenty of other addresses I can use.
