What would be the best comic book reader to make the jump to the ipad ?
I am talking about sync with personal library .. able to read the most file type or directory ....

I mean with all this screen place on the ipad ... this thing is going to rock the house for those readers ! :)

So what do you guys think, what would be the best one ?
 
Comic reader mobi.
You don't have to reconvert all of the CBR's and CBZ's they are releasing an ipad version as well.

Sweet ... no conversion of CBR files .... oh man ....
My Spawn collection is going to look Gorgeous on that Screen :)

ComicBookLover does the same thing and best of all it's free, and yes they're releasing an iPad version as well.

If you also have the ComicBookLover Mac desktop app then it sync's flawlessly.

The interface for Mac OSX is like having an iTunes for comics, keeps all comics organized ... and syncs them to the ipad ...

I'm sold for this one ... I cant believe its free !!!

Just doing some testing on the iphone for some paper comics that I have to see how readable they will be in CBR format on the iPhone.

The answer is - not easily readable. But I can see the iPad being a great way to view comics when I am travelling an don't want to take 4KG of comics with me (as I did recently).

I just need to find a source of legal DC comics so as I buy them in the comic book store, I can then get them for reading on the iPad.
 
Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm checking these out now on my iPod, but can't wait to see how much better they look on my iPad.
 
Well this is off topic ... but ... what comics do you guys plan on reading on the iPad ? :)
 
i've been using comics on the iPhone - i think the transitions when flipping pages are really well done. you don't have to do any panning out to read the page - occassionally you have to flip the iphone to the side to see wide pages - but its kind of cool.
 
I honestly can't wait to read comics on an iPad.. It'll look amazing! My favorite graphic novel, Watchmen, is obviously done in comic form, so I can't wait to re-read it!
 
Comicbook Mobi is the one to use on the Phone, but it does cost money, it allows a special zoom lens to go over the text bubbles so you can ready them without having to scroll the comic. I like it alot. With alot more Screen real estate on the Ipad we'll have to wait and see what is best.

Agreed. Comicbook Mobi has definitely ben my first choice for my iPhone. But at $15 it is pretty expensive and the iPad's bigger screen should make the zoom function pretty worthless. i guess we'll find out in 9 days which works best!
 
I am new to digital comic books but I was hoping the iPad would be a great way to start.

I see nobody mentioned Panelfly or Comics (by ComiXology). I only tried these two apps briefly but really liked how they automatically jump between panels. No need for pinching or scrolling. How would they compare to the other readers mentioned in this thread? Maybe they don't support CBRs? What are CBRs exactly and where do you buy them? I know for Panelfly and Comics those apps have built in stores.

As I said I am a noob so any input on this would be interesting!

If I understand properly--and I might not--CBR is an 'open' format. It's basically just a collection of images. If it's CBZ that just means it's compressed. "Most" comic reader programs will read these files, it's kind of a universal. However, I believe PanelFly at least does not read this format, you are locked into content that can be purchased from them only. (Someone jump in here if I've got this wrong.)

To be honest, I am not aware of any 'legit' sources of CBR comics, I only know of...uh...homebrew sources.


I'm looking forward to reading the comic-based continuations of my favorite Joss Whedon shows (Buffy, Angel and Firefly) on the iPad. I have digitized copies but laptop reading sucks.

I own the whole Sandman (Vertigo) run in 'real' comics, that would be pretty awesome to re-read digitally, if I could find it.

Re-reading serial webcomics like Sluggy Freelance also sounds like it will be a joy on the iPad.

Other than that...I am not too comically-inclined.

In a collection of about 9000 comics I have 20 Marvel Comics (Howard the Duck, the Awesome Slapstick and the T2 Adaptation).

In testing CBL yesterday I really struggled reading Fall of Green Arrow as I had to zoom in a lot to read the speech bubbles and that then made the page by page transitions harder :(

I am trying to build my own comic collection ... and I am in need of advice to find ...... legen ......... wait for it ............ dary comics !

What would be the essential comics that I need to find ?

Anyone just tell me your all time favorite comic :cool:
