According to Biolithic's site they are working on a version of Comiczeal specifically for the Ipad ! As it's one of the reasons I'm buying the PAD I can't wait to be reading CBR files on the device.. it's going to be the perfect platform for comic fans.

Comiczeal Coming For Ipad !

It's been maybe 15 years since I've read a comic book. Honestly, the iPhone apps(that I've found) leave a lot to be desired, I guess it's more of the screen size.

You guys might want to look into the ComicBookLover app. I use the ComicBookLover desktop app on my mac mini and it works great, they've also released an iPhone app that sync's perfectly with the desktop app and best of all it's free.
They also announced that they'll have an iPad optimized app. I have both Comiczeal and ComicBookLover apps for my iPhone and the CBL app has replaced comiczeal.

I prefer Comic Reader Mobi (I have both Comiczeal and Comic Reader Mobi). On my Mac I use ComicBookLover so I'll look into the iphone/ipad version as suggested. Anyway back on topic, Comic Reader Mobi is a little expensive but the author has said he is putting in the iPad enhancements and will not be making a separate version of the app so all existing users can upgrade for free.
Yes the Comic Zeal version allows you to set up a server, you then drop the cbr files onto the app and it resizes them for the Touch/Phone and then the Phones side app downloads them onto the device, you can then organize the comics into virtual comic boxes. The Seperate Ipad app will probably be designed to convert for the Ipad's Larger screen so that you get Higher res files.
Comic Reader Mobi loads CBRs and CBZs natively, its by far the best comic book reader available on the iphone, the ipad version is gonna be great.
Yes it does. Along with that you just tap on a section off the comic and the talk bubble will magnify, which prevents you from having to zoom in to read text. This obviously isn't going to be a problem with the iPad but it makes reading a comic on the iPhone SO much easier and better.
I've not used ComicZeal in awhile (been using Comic Reader Mobi - more on this in a moment) but when I did you converted the files through a desktop pp, not their website, which while slightly onerous made for a very fast, battery efficient comic reader. Their website seems to indicate that's still the same. There is a big difference between online and offline file conversions.
I've been using Comic Reader Mobi for the "smart zoom" feature the last year or so, though. On the iPad, zooming will be far less necessary, perhaps completely unnecessary, so I will be switching back to Comic Zeal as I like the interface much, much more than Comic Reader Mobi's. I also think their sync software is far better as well. Comic Reader Mobi provides ONE good feature (albeit a killer feature) and charges far to high a premium for it.
As I already own Comic Zeal for iPhone/iPod (which was a $5 app when I bought it, dunno what it is now) I am hoping they make it a universal/hybrid/whatever app and give it as an upgrade for iPad users...

Well, good library functions (sorting, bookmarking, etc) is a must. Some sort of fast zoom is probably needed, even on the iPad, as an option. A good two-page spread mode is something the iPad will need that iPhone's don't. I think a feature lacking in many comic apps is a method for device to device sharing - I want to be able to give/lend someone else a comic from iPad to iPad.
My only problem with ComicZeal is the reformatting/ resizing of files.
I hope they do let native files play on the iPad app. I still think they have best presentation and user interface.
It's good to hear that different companies are working on an Ipad app.
But I wish the big companies like DC and Marvel put out more content digitally on the ipad/iPhone . Especially their graphic novels and collected series, I think they would sell a ton of these.

This is one of the main reasons I'm excited for an iPad. I'm going to check out both Comiczeal and Comicbook Lover. Both compress comics before you transfer which is great but sometimes they aren't as clear as I'd like. I'm wondering if you'll need to recompress them for the iPad. I wouldn't mind doing it if it had a better resolution. But anyway, I really hope I've finally found a great way to read my comics!
