I currently have a rooted G1, and I love it. I love how Android lets you install whatever app you want, and has fewer restrictions on apps than Apple. I also like the UI better, because it can be tweaked and customized while the Iphone can't. However, my girlfriend has been bugging me to switch to ATT so that we can talk for free. Now that the new iphone is coming out, I am considering out. Is there anyone here that's made this kind of switch before?

I made the switch from the iPhone to Android (the Nexus One). I can't wait to get back to the iPhone. I hate what I have now.

You might think about picking up a used 3G and jailbreak it. There is a lot of UI customization that can be done that way. Google and read the iPhone Hacks section for more info.
