So I got C&C, First Decade from Best Buy. It's the first 12 games in the series. I can't play any of them.

I have Snow Leopard, installed Parallels, and installed XP Pro... SP2 or 3. I don't remember.

With the earlier games such as Red Alert 1, I get an error message: Unable to allocate primary video buffer
Red Alert 2 will start to play but no mouse action and no video... just sound
With Generals it will not boot at all.

I'm guessing there is a communication error with the games and hardware on my mac.

Things I've tried: patches (including XP patch you get from the free download of Red Alert 1), properties>compatibility>win95

what I have:
OS X 10.6.8
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M

Anyone got a clue?

Many many moons ago, I had the same issue on a real PC and if I remember correctly, it was something to do with Direct X, maybe download the most recent version for Xp and see if that sorts it out.

Not sure what else could be the cause except for VRAM allocation to parallels. i would guess that Generals may be too much for an emulator but the other, older games should work.

I can run total annihilation using VirtualBox without any problems but entering 3D game territory on an emulator is usually bad news.

Not sure if that was helpful but this is all I know.

Strange, even the original red alert works in windows 7 for me. So does tiberian sun, and red alert 2. You might wanna try bootcamping though. For any kind of gaming the experience is much better. many of these games rely on directdraw which may be a little shoddy inside of parallels.

Have you installed parallels tools?
