Hi

I closed all Finder-sessions (nevertheless there is a point under the Finder-icon)
and did press Command-T keys in order to open a Terminal-session.

But a new Finder is started..

Why that?

Thanks!

Bill

It's because command-T isn't a shortcut to open the terminal on Mac.

Try this:

When no windows are displayed, Finder is typically the focused application; it draws the desktop. ⌘T is the command for opening a new Finder tab.

In addition to the above; Windows and application instances are not the same thing on macOS. By default the Finder cannot be closed because as stated above, it is also the program running the desktop. But in general, closing all windows is not the same as closing an app. CMD+Q quits an application. The application can be running and in focus even with no windows
