Saw this posted on Darlymple's site and made me smile. If you didn't know better you'd think they were talking about Apple Watch. Somethings never change indeed. :)

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/apples-new-thing-ipod.500/

Here are some comments on the announcement of Apple’s “newest” digital device:

“I was so hoping for something more.”

“Great just what the world needs.”

“Heres an idea Apple – rather than enter the world of gimmicks and toys, why dont you spend a little more time sorting out your pathetically expensive line up? Or are you really aiming to become a glorified consumer gimmicks firm?”

“I still can’t believe this! All this hype for something so ridiculous! Who cares? I want something new! I want them to think differently!”

“Why oh why would they do this?! It’s so wrong! It’s so stupid!”

“Come on everyone, y’all are saying it sucks before you have even held it in your hand.”

“The reason why everyone’s dissapointed is because we had our hopes up for this incredible device.”

Pretty typical commentary.

Except, all of the above is taken from the forums at Macrumors and all of the above, and more, are referring to the launch of the original iPod.

Some things never change.

Here's a few more gems from that thread:

$400 for an Mp3 Player!

I'd call it the Cube 2.0 as it wont sell, and be killed off in a short time...and it's not really functional.

Uuhh Steve, can I have a PDA now?

No ****** Way
All that hype for an MP3 player? Break-thru digital device? The Reality Distiortion Field™ is starting to warp Steve's mind if he thinks for one second that this thing is gonna take off.

However, it is by no means revolutionary or groundbreaking. It is an MP3 player. BFD. It is just a step in the evolution of an MP3 player. A little smaller, a little lighter, a little better battery.

LOL, every, every time it has been the same...

Whenever Apple introduces something really new, most folk absolutely hate it:

• iPod:
Apple going for the MP3 gimmicks?!?

• Mac OS X:
Wow... so many die-hard Apple fans flaming about how it looked like Windows, and this would be the end of Apple.

• iMac:
All the "fans" were screaming about the lack of the ABD and serial ports and.. uh... floppy disk drive.

• Intel:
Remember: "I threw up in my mouth a little" by some of the real fans over here... The PPC made the Mac unique.

• iPhone:
Once it was released everyone was joyful, but the rumours..... "how could Apple go into the already crowded mobile phone market?!?"

• ... more?
Usually when the forum readers start bitching the product, it will turn out the be the best product!

;)

What's funny is in the past Apple products were knocked for not doing enough. Now :apple:Watch is being knocked for apparently doing too much.

That's interesting.

I wonder... when Apple's products were knocked for not doing enough, they usually were later praised for doing great at what the did do... i.e. "focus".

 Watch will be interesting to follow

There's a reason :apple:Watch isn't out yet. And I suspect it's not just battery life. I suspect there are things either not ready or Apple wants to save then for the launch. Should be interesting.

None of this means the Apple Watch will be any good. But maybe it will be a few generations down the line like the ipod, iphone and os x.

Apple's first gen devices are like the beta test.

Sure. Just like the first iPhone and iPad weren't great either but look where they are now. Not saying that will for sure happen with :apple:Watch, just pointing out that every new :apple: device has has its naysayers. :apple:Watch is no different.
