My old 23" Apple Cinema HD Display just bit the dust. I used to be "the Mac Guy" that could answer any Mac question, but am now a 69-year-old scratching my head about replacement options. Not gonna spring for an Apple monitor. Would appreciate any recommendations for other monitors. Don't need/want more than 4K. Thanks.

MP6,1 have HDMI 1.4 and Thunderbolt 2 ports. Any 4K display supporting HDMI or DisplayPort/mini-DisplayPort should work. Lots of choices.

Oh, great, thanks! I was expecting more hoops to jump through. Things like refresh rate, etc.

Something to keep in mind is that the Mac Pro 6,1 over HDMI is limited to 30Hz refresh rate with 4K. It's not really a big issue as Display Port will give you 60+ Hz but just make sure you're using the right cables... DP/Mini DP will get you the best resolution possible and your new monitor will shine :)

This is something that should be always the first thing to tell about MacPro6,1 and 4K displays, the HDMI 1.4 port will only output 4K at 30Hz, while the miniDisplayPort will output at 60Hz:

Also, MacPro6,1 does not support HDR output.

Thanks for the feedback, folks, much appreciated!

F1Mac is right. The HDMI port only supports 4K30Hz.

I actually lucked out and found two perfectly good 23" Cinema HD Displays just down the road, off craigslist. Low use because they lived in a storage unit for years. Got both for $95.

He has a 30" but no 150w brick, if anyone near Palm Springs is interested. If so, email me, scopepope62 at the G monopoly, and I'll give you his contact info.

Thanks again for the feedback.
