Anyone ever use a pcie or other card that allows you to insert a Compact Flash card directly into the MP? Experience? Reliability? Performance? Manufacturer/Model?

I want to be able to download large volumes of pics from UDMA 300x++ Cards to MP quickly.

Now for the bonus question....assume access was in the back, was this an extreme pain in the neck?

Thanks for sharing.

Oof. I have a pair of those. They are out of production. I paid less than $100 for each of them. I should put one on eBay.

Yeah, Sandisk discontinued them a couple years ago (IIRC) and now they're price gouged, especially if new in box. Hoodman also made a similar FW800 CF reader (which I have), also discontinued.

Last October, my Hoodman stopped working, so I had to get the one Lexar still makes in a pinch during a film shoot. That one's only FW400 though. But I wasn't about to spend $250-300 on something that used cost around $80.

It seems that everyone is migrating towards USB 3.0 readers now.

Ouch

Now I know why this is so difficult to find. The expense might not warrant it, but thanks for the feedback everyone. You willing to take 101 bucks for one of the extras you have captain?:).?

I have no extras. :(

My FW800 Hoodman stopped working last October on a film shoot (fried somehow) and I had to replace it with an inferior FW400 Lexar because it was only thing available for a reasonable price. They're under $40 on Amazon. The only crappy part is that it doesn't come with a FW400-FW800 adapter, so you'll need one if you have a newer Mac without FW400 ports.

FWIW, the Lexar is still significantly faster than any reader based on USB 2.0. USB 2.0 readers are SLOW...SLOW...SLOW.

Yeah the price seemed a bit shocking to me, I'm fairly certain mine was under $100 when I bought it as well.
