This is a compilation of problems/errors I've had with my new iPhone 3g in the last 24 hours it has been activated.

Freezing (three occasions)
Turning off randomly (once)
Slow response to touching
No response to touching
Syncing would stop due to error having to do with the applications on my iPhone (AIM, Weatherbug, AOLRadio, etc)

If anyone else has had any of these problems and has resolved it somehow, please post here. Thank you

Sounds like you have a bad unit. On other devices I would recommend a hard reset, but I have never done this with an iPhone. Can anyone recommend a restore from iTunes for this? p.s. I'm not suggesting you do yet - wait til someone verifies.

Mine has frozen a couple of times.
I don't mean completely crashed, but I have opened an app (I think it has happened with SMS, iPod and App Store) it stopped responding for a full 45-60 seconds.

Also, once I started playing a song in iPod and no sound came out. Volume was up at about 75%, the time bar showed that it was in fact playing, I could skip to the next song and everything. I could even watch videos, just no sound.
It took a soft reset to fix the problem, no idea what the issue was though.

I am having the same issue. The handset seems to be lagging quite a lot. It seems that the new software has caused the phone to lag maybe. I am going to restore my iphone now and see if this fixes the problem

I've had to restart mine a few times due to the SMS screen moving halfway up the screen where I can't see what I'm typing. And my ringer volume slider in settings magically resets itself to 1/4-1/2 volume, although the actual volume never changes.

Hmmm I was in the iPhone developer program pre-release and when I saw that the build numbers of the beta and the shipping version were the same I was a bit worried because the beta was plagued with freezing, slow response times, and random restarts. I am hoping this doesn't happen to the iPhone 3G.

My iPhone 3G has froze only once where I had to restart it and hasn't had the slow restart times... so I'm hoping this is a good sign.

Either way 2.0.1 will be a much-needed release when it comes :p

Yes it does happen on both of them as i have tried on both my normal iphone and my 3G one. if they have not changed the version of the beta software it probably means that they did not have to time to perfect another release which probably means it will be on its way in the next couple of weeks

For GPS - see separate thread - worked successfully for me.

Which just leaves the finish. Mine has a poor finish on one side of the screen - a raised ridge on the right hand bezzle where the screen feels as if its been pushed in by half a mm or so.

The unit works, but does't feel quite right - would the jury seek a replacement?

Vibration stopped on mine this morning. I tried a power cycle, reset and full restore to no avail. I then gave it a slap on the back and it started working again :)
If it happens again (and assuming there's some stock somewhere), I'll swap it over, but for now I'm happy again

I had pretty much the same problem. Especially random restart and slow response.

I've only installed less than 10 apps. At one point, the restart happened when I tried to launch Facebook app and caused all the apps failed to launch. I followed Apple support recommendation by reinstall the Facebook app. The apps are working now but still experiencing random restart.

The slow response is also killing me too. Tab on something and I have to wait about a second to get the response. Not all the time but it happens pretty often too.
