macOS Compiling/Recompiling A linux App for 10.4

If I have access to the source material of a linux program I want to run, can it be compiled/recompiled to run on Apple's OS 10.4.4 for the PowerPC chip architecture. Or complied in a manor that will run in X 11, Darwin Ports, or Fink perhaps?

If so, is there any good websites or literature I should check out?

If you find the app using fink, that might be your best and easiest chance.

If not, you could go the long way...

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "If you find the app using fink". I though programs like fink and X 11 are just environments to run ports. Do they actually emulate for the application. Thus making it not necessary to port some applications?

I'm very green in the area of programming so I appreciate you advice. Also thanks for the link.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "If you find the app using fink".

If you install fink, you have access to a very long list of software made ready for OS X that you can download, configure, compile and install with a few easy-to-learn commands.
