completely confused (getting a new MacBook Pro)

Dear all, this is my first post.

I had already decided on getting a new MBP15'', but decided to wait until today, to see what was coming out. today I arrive here and got completely confused:

-- has the new MacBook Pro already been announced? when?
-- why do some people call it SR? Not Apple, surely, they just say Core2Duo 2.2/2.4
-- is there anything exciting about this new model? LED? more Gh (0.0000delta)? That's it?!?!
-- there's still a lot of talking about waiting for Steve Jobs' speech? what for? hasn't the new model been announced and that's it?

I've been away from the forum to get my anxiety controlled, and now I'm completely confused...

The new Macbook Pro was just released last Tuesday.
The SR means the Santa Rosa Intel chip (which is the updated MBP).
LED is the screen type, its a bit brighter and is more environmentally friendly (probably other things too).

Overall it is the best time to buy a new MBP. Right NOW!!!!!

-- The new MBP was announced on Tuesday, June 5, 2007.
-- SR = "Santa Rosa" to differentiate it from the old model, indicating it's using the new Intel chipset (still Core2Duo processors).
-- Exciting: LED backlighting is about it, or 1920x1200 high-res display if you're in it for a 17" (still CCFL backlighting, though). Some are happy by the RAM boost to 2GB in all models, a non-issue for those who bought one with 2GB already in the previous gen. Supposedly better wireless.
-- Some folks are waiting until after Jobs speaks to see if any other new products are announced that they might want to buy instead, since the upgrade to the MBP isn't as substantial as some had hoped. For example, a lot of people are hoping for an ultra-portable Mac.
 
A new macbook pro model was released last week. It has the new chipset that was code named "Santa Rosa", hence the SR. It does have an LED display, better video card, and faster speeds. In his speech he probably won't release new macbook pros but will talk about other things, such as leopard.

The new macbook pro came out last Tuesday. It is called "SR," or Santa Rosa, as that is the codename for Intel's newest mobile chipset. Santa Rosa supports these new 2.2 and 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo processors. They have LED screens, yes, and they are very nice. The machine also takes up to 4GB of RAM now, over the previous capacity of 3GB. It also has the nvidia 8600M as a new graphics card, which was badly needed. It's an update, not a brand new laptop.

Some people are waiting for today's keynote to see if we get anything like iLife/iWork 2007, or possibly an ultraportable laptop. Some are even expecting coupons to upgrade to 10.5 since it's been delayed for so long.

It can't hurt to wait a few hours to see what comes out. Who knows? It might be something really neat.
 
A new MBP was released on Tuesday.

SR refers to the chip-set used, called Santa Rosa, that brings with it a number of benefits, such as increased FSB and the newer, faster processors.

The 17" model now has increased screen resolution and the 15" model has a brighter LED-based screen that is also environmentally friendly.

Wait till after the Keynote incase something better is released, although that's doubtful if you have your mind set on a 15" MBP.

Meanwhile I called my usual provider, and it seems we'll have them in Portugal by the end of the month :(
or even more another 2 weeks... (mid July)

I'll call next week to reserve me one of those...

it seems it was wise to wait anyway...

at the very least I can save about 600 euros buying the previous version
at most I'll have the newest version for about the same price (2500euros)

I am a g3 clam shell with macos 9 user (heroic times... )

+ Mac mini 1.66

Really need a new laptop as you can see.

Sorry, was just teasing. I know it's frustrating - I used to get really upset even just being in Canada and seeing the US get all these great deals on new Dell products and we always paid a premium + had to wait longer.

why would you be upset when they get good deals on DELL products???

Point of pedantry and pet peeve/bugbear of mine, but Santa Rosa is actually an Intel codename for a platform which consists, amongst other things, of a set of processor (Merom), chipset (Crestline), WiFi card (Kedron) and some optional components (Robson). You may know them better as Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo, Intel Mobile 965 Express, Intel 4965AGN and Intel Turbo Memory respectively. Or perhaps not. I heard Robson is particularly surly.

Of these, Apple is definitely using Merom and Crestline. I think they're using an Atheros card rather than 4965AGN but I'm not sure. Anyone who knows feel free to enlighten me, I'm genuinely interested.

Santa Rosa is also city in Northern California (as well as other places, most likely). Quite a pretty one. Alfred Hitchcock was fond of it. The Peanuts museum is there, and quite a fun place to visit. However, I seriously doubt it would fit inside the 1" thick thin case without resorting to either a REALLY big hammer or a spare singularity, so I'm going to assume it's still the Intel hardware for the purposes of this discussion.

Yes, I know I'm being an irritating *%#@! but I'm obsessive enough not to let it go anyway.
