I bought Apple's Component AV Cable and it works great showing movies bought through iTunes with both my iPad and the iPhone. However, when I tried the ABC Player app I got only sound but no video. :( Now I am wondering, before I try or sign up, whether Netflix rentals will work. Anyone know?

We have a 47 inch LCD in our home and a 21 inch LCD in our RV and the viewing experience is greatly enhanced using the Component AV Cable connected to the iPad but it would seem limited if only iTunes movies from Apple can be viewed.

on my ipod touch its the same. itunes you get video and audio. any other app you either get nothing at all or just picture/no sound and vice versa.

I get audio & video streaming via Air Video if that's any help?

Here is the setup in my Class B RV.

on itunes and non itunes videos?

what apps are you using?

I tried with my cables and it does work with itunes and handbrake converted movies. I have not tried the abc or netflix app yet.

That video is from iTunes and Apple's Videos app. You answered my question. I wanted to know if you could view streaming Netflix videos through the Component AV cable as well. Netflix is a cheaper rental deal than Apple though I can't say I am impressed with their streaming video collection but it is hard to rent DVDs from them when on the road.

So far I have established that iTunes videos bought, rented or make your own will play through the cable connection. I understand YouTube will as well but I haven't tried it yet. Air Video is over my head. I haven't figured it out yet.

I believe he's using Air Video, like he said. Or did I misunderstand something?

Typed too quickly. I meant " what OTHER apps are you using"

I saw the air video mentioned I was asking if he was getting other non iTunes videos to play that we have not yet discussed already.

The current version of the Netflix app does not support video out. There were a few blog posts discussing what works and doesn't work with the VGA adapter. I would not be surprised to see an update to the app that supports full video out.

It won't work with Air Video for me. I only get audio, no video. Video, music and slideshow is the only thing that works. I'm very happy with that.
