After 3 trips to the CompUSA to buy additional RAM for my iMac G5, I still had nothing that would work!

On my first trip, I was given the wrong ram stick to purchase--wouldn't even go into my Mac. The 2nd trip (when I waited in line at the customer service desk for 10 minutes), I read them the manual's ram specifications & was given a stick that would fit into the slot, but was not recognized by my Mac. The third trip, I got a stick that would be recognized by my Mac, but caused 2 system failures within 5 minutes.

At my 4th trip to the store, I asked to see the manager, & explained the problems I was having. He offered no apology, & didn't even respond to me. He turned to another employee, told them to refund my money, & went back to chatting up this cute chick.

I'm not going back to CompUSA, not even for a mouse pad.

Lol, yes I was in CompUSA back when I was visiting US. A friend of mine was looking for a graphics card for his Dell while I stopped by a Mac stand ;)

So? PowerMac G5 Dual had only 256 MB of RAM installed in it!!!

Apple store had 2 gigs in dual 1.8 and 4 gigs in dual 2 GHz G5s by that time

I'm sorry to hear that. If I were you I'd just let everyone know what computer you have on this forum and I'm sure they'd give you a link to the ram that would work perfectly. Good luck

I have the same situtaion, too. But not RAM, just eMac. This guy wouldn't even repair my eMac for the 5th times! I had like 5th trip to that place. I never again will go back. It's located in Atlomonte Spring, FL (in Orlando area). DO NOT GO THERE!

sorry to hear that, too.

well, they seem to know PC very well. but for mac? ignorance is bliss. they just sell tech gadget. there is nothing you can expect. I don't know they even have tech expert like genius bar in Apple store.

No they don't. The people who work at stores like CompUSSR, Worst Buy and Jerkit City don't know a thing about computers, PC or Mac. Simple reason is that the people who actually know a great deal about computers get a real job in the IT industry, and the people who know nothing more than clicking on the blue E gets you onto teh intarwebs end up at retail stores.

Sorry man, but I was reading those parody store names and I couldn't stop laughing, that's hilarious :D

It's Altamonte Springs, but yeah, I dealt with two Apple certified technicians who went to the store twice a week to do their repair work. They are apparently told to deny any repair work and to blame it on software. The 2nd tech. finally caved and did some substitution but said something like "oh, we tried to put a 40 GB hard drive in it but it wouldn't work so we have to order a 6 GB drive from Apple." Of course, that iMac is dead again.

The manager there hates Apple. They used to leave the ladder and the software cart in the Apple section, just for spite. The manager at the south Orlando store merely dislikes Apple.

The stores are basically the same, you have to know what you're doing or they'll take advantage of you. Even the Apple stores here don't seem to have knowledgeable help, though they're enthusiastic.

Had a problem, but in the end it worked out great!!!!

I have bought 2 PowerBooks and a Intel Mini from CompUSA. I am in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. We have three Apple stores with in 30 minute driving time. But CompUSA is 4 minutes from my home. Our store has a Apple Specialist full time, who is employed by Apple not CompUSA. When I bought my first PowerBook, I went back to get a ram card. The specialist was off I went to the counter an bought a ram card. I had nothing but problems with the PowerBook it froze up, kernnel panics etc. I went back the next day and the specialist was there. He told me to see him before I buy anything for my Apple, he gave me a buisness card with a cell phone number. This was three years ago. As I said we have three Apple store with in a thirty minutes of my home. They are plans to build 2 more. The Apple stores are standing room only and very crowded. I just call Steve to make sure he is there and buy the time I get to the store what I need is always ready for me. So maybe if your CompUsa does not have a Specialist you should request one from Apple and tell them about your problems. I do go to the Apple stores in Aventura and Boca Raton when I am need something and are already there shopping for other things. It always takes longer to get something or someone to help me.

My local CompUSA has a trained Apple representative on duty most of the time, so I've had good experiences. When he's not around, the other employees seem...rather incompetent when it comes to Macs. I like CompUSA, simply because I research and know exactly what I want ahead of time (exactly the type of RAM, etc) before I go in so I don't have to deal with the workers, and they have nice hardware on the floor :)

I resent that. Being an employee at Office Depot and knowing quite a bit about PCs and Macs I don't believe I fall into that category. Frankly, everyone that I work with is going to college, hence the reason for the crappy retail job. Just because someone works retail doesn't mean that they're a moron. Sometimes just merely trying to get by with some higher aspriations in life.

CompUSA is the worst... I stopped buying products years ago there after receiving rude or indifferent service at the Downers Grove, IL store. Seems like they can only hire 20-something slackers who are too bored to care about customer service.

Haha jerkit city...
Anways back to CompUSA

For Windows needs they are very handy, but when it comes to Mac, one of our two Compusa stores needs help. The first time I went to look for an iBook, one of them was a Apple Technician, who was very helpful. The other store however needed work in the Apple Section. The guy didn't know much, but he tried.

yeah iWork'ed  at compusa for about 6 months, they def have a good amount of Stock Mac's but no ram.. and it is way over priced.. i always went newegg or crucial because even with my discount the comp ram was too expensive.
