Computer crashed/Syncing iPhone to new iTunes without losing music

I apologize if this is an overly simple procedure, but I was not able to find a solution elsewhere in the forum for this particular set of circumstances.

My 5 year old iBook G4 crashed a few weeks after I got my iPhone. The iPhone was synced to that iTunes library which is now non-existent. Is there any way to find out the iTunes ID# so I can keep the music that is on the iPhone now and still sync to a new iTunes library to add new music?

The music is not backed up so I cannot simply wipe it out and start over without losing everything.

i had this similar situation with my PC if your music is purchased through itunes then you can appearntly download the music again (for free) on a different computer otherwise your sol cause i have not been able to find a program that transfers itunes purchased music off the iphone with exception to manualy SSH'ing it off the phone

As I understand it, it's only apps that you can redownload for free. In order to redownload music and videos, you have to beg the customer service nicely.

And I can't believe you couldn't find any programs to transfer music from iPhone to computer. I just googled "copy music from iPhone to computer" and got a ton of hits.

I am not sure if this is the same situation, but if the music, videos, apps etc are already on your iphone cant you just sync them onto your itunes if you still have your account?

You can sync back your *apps and contacts* to your itunes/computer. Everything else needs to be already in the itunes on your computer or they get deleted. So in order to transfer music & videos from an iPhone to your computer you need to use one of the many third-party iPod/iPhone media transfer programs you can find with google.

Really? That's interesting info, thanks for letting us know! Personally, I've never had occasion to use any ipod to computer transfer software, as I anally backup all my media files to two separate locations, because I know that the copies on my ipods/iphones are only temporary copies, not intended to be copied back onto my computer.

yeah i ssh'ed all my purchased music off and when i imported it back into itunes they were all named like so....

45780234-23423492 or something like that so i listend to them all renaming them to what they were called.

Thanks so much for all your help everyone. I'm hoping that when I buy my new Mac this week, the Genius Bar will be able to pull the iPhone downloaded music and back it up onto my new iTunes library. Unfortunately, the iTunes login doesn't matter since the iPhone recognizes that I'm synced to a different library. I've purchased about $100 worth of music through my phone so I have to explore this "re-download" feature to see if it works.

here is something you can try, authorize the new computer with your itunes account then plug in your iphone and under the devices tab on the left side of itunes right click your iphone and click transfer purchases, that will transfer all applications and music over to the new computer.

i wasnt able to do this for some strange reason according to my sisters laptop i hadnt purchased any music at all even thoguh i'd bought like 80 or so songs

try getsharepod.com and download that software. It will let you transfer anything on your ipod/iphone to a new computer then it is simply a matter of drag and drop into your itunes library.
