Have a macbook pro 2012. I haven't used the CD reader that much even though I've had my date for so long. Now I try to insert a CD disc but the computer does not accept it. I can't hear the mechanics that are supposed to receive the disc. What could be the error?

Your optical media device has failed after 12 years.

Does the disc go in at all? About how far?
So, no matter how far you insert the disc , the drive won’t grab it?
Have you used this disc before?
Is it a DVD?

If your optical drive isn’t working, i.e. no mechanical operation, it has either failed or it’s not getting power. Either way, there is no fix without taking the MBP apart to test the component or swap it. I would just get an external bus powered USB CD optical drive. They are cheap.
