Computer not doing so hot . . .

Ok, So I am running Tiger 10.4.2 and I have been having some issues. Most noticeable were iChat kept signing me off (AIM) and exposé show desktop was not working (hot corners and keyboard). I decided to archive and install Tiger again to try and fix the problems.

I did repair permissions and inserted the DVD. Archived and installed. Started off ok, did all the sw updates, but now iChat beachballs on me (after it goes through all the set up info). Mail is laggy, Safari is having trouble resizing windows, exposé show desktop is still a no go and my Apple wireless mouse is not being picked up (it can click but the computer won't let it move around).

I already inserted the DVD again and did a repair disk, found nothing.

Ideas on how to fix this problem before I call Applecare tomorrow?

Also I am running a 1 ghz iMac G4, 768 RAM, 17" screen.

I had similar problems about a week ago when I installed Tiger. The only fix was a clean install-back up your data, erase your hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch. It's a pain, but it fixed all my problems.

If I back up all my data, would that save my itunes data, such as playlists and my user account preferences?

Also, my ipod (3ed gen) has received the newest update but does not give me a podcasts option under music (and yes there are podcasts on it) is that related?

Yes, if you save your home folder that will backup everything. Good luck.

Also, make sure you copy any applications you don't want to have to reinstall, like Chess.
