During the summer, i will need to buy a laptop for 6th form in the UK and i was wondering what set of speakers i should choose between these:

Creative Inspire T7900
Creature II
Soud sticks

I would use them to watch DVDs, listen to music and to play games. What does anyone suggest?? I like the idea of 7:1 but 2:1 would still be good.

I can get the creature speakers for £44, the Creative Inspire T7900 for £66 and the soundsticks for £88. What is everyone's view? All of the speakers have good reviews

Wouldn't the 7:1 give better sound though?? I don't care about the wires as i have a perfectly good carpet to shove them under.

I had the same ideas, but wires do get annoying, unless you will use true 7.1 sound don't bother. Especially for music, stereo is fine at 2.1 :)

Forget the Creatives, and I would give the Creatures an absolute NO

The Soundsticks are very cool, but they lack definition in the high frequency. I was in your situation about a year ago, at the Regent Street Apple Store. I tested all the speakers and came to the conclusion i wanted the Soundsticks. However on my way down the glass staircase I heard the bassline to "Outkast - I like the way you move" dominate the whole Store with deafening force. I found the source, they turned out to be the Altec Lansing MX5021 speakers. Its a 2.1 system with a 6" sub @ 130W  its loud.

I was told by an Apple guy they were easily the best speakers in the Store and the price was right as well - £120. £10 more than the Soundsticks. I picked them up instantly. And now there sitting on my desk looking beautiful - and loud :D ;)

PS. They are avaliable in white,

Only trouble with that idea about the AL MX5021 is that i will also be buying a latop in the coming months with a 300GB external hard drive so they would have to cost less than £100 ($160). If anyone has any recommendations, feel free to post them

I'd back the recommendation for the Altecs as well, seriously good PC speakers.

I'd avoid the Creative like the plague
