i have just received my spanking new quad and cant wait to turn it on. however it got very cold during transit and was wondering if it was advisable for it to reach room temperature before turning it on?

how cold is cold? if you are on about the temperatures that we are having at the moment, i wouldnt expect that would affect things. anyway, by the time you have got it out of the box, plugged it all in, set up your desk etc i'm sure it will have warmed up sufficiently!
however, if it has icikles hanging off it, maybe it is time to reject it!

When I received my PowerBook it was a little cold from sitting in the shipping room of the front office for a while (apartment complex). I just read through some of the literature and waited until it seemed like it was closer to room temperature, even though it probably would have been fine right away.
Remember with all of that aluminum it is going to feel colder than it is too, so it probably will still feel cold even at room temp

this shouldn't really have a big affect, if it was hot then thats when i would start to get concered, rember water cooling is designed to 'chill' so water doesn't affect anything on a PC, (yeah i know there diffrent) but having a watercooler i know, that these things get v,cold

The only thing you might worry about is if it's really cold, but humid in your house, so you get condensation on parts. If you're really worried, just let it warm up for a couple of hours. It shouldnb't be a problem after that.

It does matter that your components have a chance to warm up to at least 50 F or better before you turn them on. You can destroy the data on a hard drive by attempting to write to it while it is <50F. We had a sudden cold snap here one year and a number of buildings' heating plants failed - see your breath indoors time - lots of calls for failing computers on that day...

Although I gotta say that the guys in California are just as abnormal as the girls. I got a mystic tan before Halloween and more guys came in to go tanning than girls....now that is weird.
About the quad, turn that baby on and get it up and running! Even if I wanted to, I couldn't every stand the wait.
Yeah, hard drives are sensitive to temperature and pressure. Let it warm up a bit if it was cold for that long. I forget what manufacturers suggest for the time needed. Most manufacturers have instructions on how long you need to wait before you want to fire up that drive.CanadaRAM said:

let it come up to room temp...i kinda wonder if it had anything to do with my g4 that i got the other day didnt work and had to send it back.......

I go tanning sometimes....but there are many more women that go than I, so I try not to worry about
