how cold is cold? if you are on about the temperatures that we are having at the moment, i wouldnt expect that would affect things. anyway, by the time you have got it out of the box, plugged it all in, set up your desk etc i'm sure it will have warmed up sufficiently!

however, if it has icikles hanging off it, maybe it is time to reject it!

Operating temperature: 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C)
Storage temperature: -40° to 149° F (-40° to 65° C)

Unless you keep your home below 10 degrees or above 35 degrees....you'll be fine.

When I received my PowerBook it was a little cold from sitting in the shipping room of the front office for a while (apartment complex). I just read through some of the literature and waited until it seemed like it was closer to room temperature, even though it probably would have been fine right away.

Remember with all of that aluminum it is going to feel colder than it is too, so it probably will still feel cold even at room temp ;)

this shouldn't really have a big affect, if it was hot then thats when i would start to get concered, rember water cooling is designed to 'chill' so water doesn't affect anything on a PC, (yeah i know there diffrent) but having a watercooler i know, that these things get v,cold

;)

The only thing you might worry about is if it's really cold, but humid in your house, so you get condensation on parts. If you're really worried, just let it warm up for a couple of hours. It shouldnb't be a problem after that.

My house!
I would take it out of the box and then take the side off and let it warm up for 20 or 30 minutes. It really shouldn't be a problem though.

good old southern california...we have our undeniable issues none of which include concerns such as these :D

"It's like someone took the country by the east coast, shook it, and all the normal girls hung on."

:D

Line from the movie Kiss Kiss Bang Bang that I found particularly humorous.

get a blanket, get naked, and hug it in your bed.

Ah, that sounds like a plan!

I <3 my PowerBook. It gets so hot. it's like a little space heater. PERFECT for cold weather.

*edit*
but I'm clothed when I do this. I wanna keep my resale value up.
*/edit*

I may venture to my front yard today, to wifi outside.

Mmm, I'll get more sick.

Everyone is sick! :(

My cousin, my friend, my other friend, my co-workers, myself! All right before I'm supposed to concentrate to stuff my face full of food....I hope this passes swiftly.

It does matter that your components have a chance to warm up to at least 50 F or better before you turn them on. You can destroy the data on a hard drive by attempting to write to it while it is <50F. We had a sudden cold snap here one year and a number of buildings' heating plants failed - see your breath indoors time - lots of calls for failing computers on that day...

Ha! Who wants normal when crazy is just so much more fun ;)

Although I gotta say that the guys in California are just as abnormal as the girls. I got a mystic tan before Halloween and more guys came in to go tanning than girls....now that is weird.

About the quad, turn that baby on and get it up and running! Even if I wanted to, I couldn't every stand the wait.

Yeah, hard drives are sensitive to temperature and pressure. Let it warm up a bit if it was cold for that long. I forget what manufacturers suggest for the time needed. Most manufacturers have instructions on how long you need to wait before you want to fire up that drive.

I always give it time to warm up.

It's pretty cold this time of year, and after being shipped or even a long car driive home, a computer can cool down a lot.

Your house is much warmer than a shipping truck, and the rapid change in temperature will cause a little condensation. Turning it on will only make it get wamer faster, causing even more condensation.

Let the outside metal or plastic warm up to about room temp. before starting it.

I go tanning sometimes....but there are many more women that go than I, so I try not to worry about :p

You know what's weird? As soon as I was reading this thread, my Google news page automatically refreshed and this story was on the top with that title:

http://www.amin.org/eng/uncat/2005/nov/nov21-1.html

Hmmm, that doesn't have anything to do with the movie  :(

So has it been started up yet!? Are you folding like crazy? Crunching numbers? Applying filters? What's going on!!!???
It's a QUAD!, surely it's doing something....
