I am using Mojave but I want to upgrade to the latest OS.
I’ve been using this app which won’t be compatible beyond Mojave. https://screenshade.en.softonic.com/mac

What I like about it is that I can control the dimness (below the minimum dimness of the) by Option and the + or - key to go brighter or dimmer.
Is there an app like this (that preferably has the same convenient short key) that is compatible with OS beyond Mojave?

Do you dim it to the point that the screen is turned OFF?

You can do that by assigning a corner of your display to auto turn OFF display when mouse pointer goes to that corner.

One crucial reason one should have the most recent OS possible is security, and Mojave is too old to get upgrades. I run Mojave in a 2012 MP, but which extreme caution.

Good tip! Have you moved to a 2022 Mac Studio? Final Security Update of 2018 macOS Mojave was over 18 months ago.

From 32nm chip to 5nm chip!

No I dim it just enough for the screen to be not hurting my eyes while reading on the screen. (I don't turn the screen off with it)

Have you considered reading the text in "Dark Mode". This makes the background dark and text white/light

That doesn't help that much because the white letters will be too shiny without using the app.

Have you checked this? It has the same name, similar (same?) functionality. Not sure whether the author is the same.

I just downloaded this to try it. It is similar, but doesn't seem to have the same short cut function that ScreenShade does.
