hello everyone,

i'm a little bit concerned with the battery life of my iPhone 5s which i got brand new 1 month ago.I have had an iPad Air for ayhear or so now and the difference in battery life might be making me confused...anyway.

My iPhone (in contrast with the iPad) loses 1% per hour while in sleep mode, without even being used.Ex.I charged it at 9PM and at 3 PM of the next day, with no use AT ALL it was down to 75% while my iPad which was charged at 9PM as well and after having watched 2 hours of YouTub,at 3PM was at 80%

I understand that since the iPhone is smaller,it's normal to have a bit worse battery life, but Apple claims 8 hours which I dont seem to be able to get.

Note that iPhone and the iPad have exactly the same settings thus it's no dofference between background apps And both run on iOS 8.3 (iPhone bas iCloud Photo Library enabled,iPad does not)

is it really useless to compare these 2 devices? Is my iPhone battery ok?I can add the battery life of the iPad and provide more examples if you want me to

Based on the screenshot it seems you have fairly good usage and standby times (better than average I would even say). So it doesn't seem like there's much to worry about.

Really? That's a relief to hear. Thanks for the reply.

I got a little bit worried when I went on a daily trip.Started with about 90% on 6AM and on 7PM I was at 4% and I only used it for a max of 30 mins angry birds + taking pictures here and there (about 30 pictures in total) and I needed to completely shut it off at some point after 13% in order to prevent it from reaching 0.to make a long story short,it barely made it through a day of,admittedly, medium to heavy usage.

I guess it's not my phone that's problematic but the 5s battery life.I was at least hoping to make through that day if not with ease,at least gracefully.I'm relieved to hear that it's working as intended because I live in Greece and we don't have Apple Stores, which would make the request for replacement a hard task.

Thanks for the answer

Perhaps you were in an area with bad mobile coverage or something like that. It can happen on some days. But, again, going by your screenshot, seems like at a little over half the battery being used you already went on for more than 1.5 days without charging, and almost 4 hours of usage, which is quite good.

I had mobile data and wifi disabled.I made a call, that's where the bad coverage could join in,but still the call lasted for about a minute.Couldnt decrease the battery that much.It just happened I guess.I have heard quite a lot of battery drama with iPhones 5s running any updates above iOS 8.3.Do you believe that upgrading from .3 to .4 would eliminate any remaining doubt?

Well, it's not just about actual usage, simply having the phone on (short of it being in airplane mode) it still looks for and connects to mobile towers, so even if you are not using it it's still maintaining a connection, and if you are in areas where the connection is poor (low signal or switching between towers or between 4G and 3G or something like that) all that can use up more battery than normal.

As for iOS updates, there haven't really been any widespread battery issues or otherwise. A phone like 5s has performed just as well with pretty much any iOS 8 update.

That would explain why it was draining and I was like what on earth is happening?

Does this happen even if the phone is completely shut off (complete turn off, hold power button)?Because it lost battery during that as well.Is there any way to avoid such behaviour?(sorry maybe for the idiotic questions)

Have you checked the actual battery capacity? With programs like coconut battery you read out the battery status. Only "problem" is with coconut battery you need a Mac. But I'm sure there are other programs that can be run directly on your iPhone.

Battery usage depends on what you do and how many apps can run things in the background.

My 5S is now nearly two years old and the battery is still very good. For example: I charged it yesterday evening and it lost nothing over night. In the morning still 100%. But I close every app over night.

So I would suggest that you check your settings.

When the phone is off there shouldn't be any battery usage. If you turn it on and the battery percentage is different it could be nothing really if it's only off by a bit given that the battery meter isn't quite accurate (since it's all just based on voltage approximation), or it could be that there's something wrong with the battery if the difference is there all the time like that and is rather large. Other than that, you can usually put the phone in airplane mode vs. turning it off completely which should save the battery too.

I haven't run any such app yet.Might give them a try (dont have mac, will search for an iPhone one)

I close every app after im done using it.I even had a pedometer that I deleted because it was constantly running in the background. The only thing that constantly runs in the background is iCloud (and App Store updates which are not that frequent so far, haven't downloaded many apps yet) with wverything activated but Safari.I don't see it taking a lot of percentage space in the battery usage list sooo,I guess that's fine.Im talking about the photo library mostly.

I haven't turnt it off a lot,in fact only there,so I can't really tell you if it's doing it all the time.I think it was a loss of about 7%

Tonight it lost 3% (talking for about 13 hours). Is it something to worry about?
