Hi,

Newbie here to this Website and also hoping within the coming days, newbie to the world of iMacs.

I have read the many many threads on the Yellow Tint issue although i am concerned about buying a 27" i5 Imac as i've been saving for a while. I'd be really disappointed if i end up with a screeen with the yellow tint issue.

What i would like advice on is the following:-

Has the reason behind the yellow tint issue been found and has it been resolved?

Would waiting for the next updated Imacs be a better option as i am not in a major hurry to buy my imac although i would prefer to buy it sooner rather than later considering the time i have been saving.

Thanks for reading my first post and id appreciate any replies.

It's the same old adage, if you can wait then wait if not then buy.

Seriously some people need to get a grip. I went out yesterday to purchase an iMac and haven't looked back.

Shambo, OP is investing £/$2k+ into this machine, I would ask questions too. To answer your question OP there haven't been many threads about it recently, but other than that, not sure.

Yeah, doing some Investigation before spending a couple of thousand dollars. What an idiot I am!!!! Get a grip!

Luckily i've been reading these Forums for a while and I know there will be some useful replies!

:p

Chances are you won't have it/won't notice it even if you do have it slightly. I know a guy who has a bit of yellow tint. He has no idea that it's there, and is totally in love with it. I didn't tell him about it ;). I just bought a 27" last week. Now it has developed yellow tint and am currently considering returning it.

Hard to say seeing as we don't know exactly what caused the problem. Assuming apple does know what the problem was/is, they probably did the best they could to improve it. As far as we know they didn't change anything to do with the design or anything.

The best theory I've heard as to the cause was rough shipping causing many of the iMacs to have been faulty, specifically, shifting a layer of material behind the panel that's meant to diffuse the light from the led backlight causing the light to look yellowish.

Would waiting for the next updated Imacs be a better option as i am not in a major hurry to buy my imac although i would prefer to buy it sooner rather than later considering the time i have been saving.

No one knows when the new iMacs will come out. Could be any time in the next 6 months, although they will probably come a month or two after new mac pros and mac book airs (which need an update more).

All I can tell you is that the current 27" are beautiful.

Do you do graphic or photographic work? If so, a tint is not a good thing.

Especially for a highly vaunted, IPS panel.

Pachang - Thanks for your informative reply. It really has helped me to make my decision.

Thermodynamic - I don't do any serious photographic work.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm going to take the plunge tomorrow and buy the 27".

I'll keep you updated.

Thanks Again :)

Barring a complete redesign of the casing and screen size, I don't see why they wouldn't replace a possible defective screen on the current models with a flawless screen on the updated models-- if that happens to begin with.
