Concerns Over iPhone Geotagging

This thing has come to my mind from time to time. Do any of you guys share the same concern over the potential unwanted leak of privacy via geotagging information in the pictures that you upload onto the Internet?

I was sharing a picture of my car just a while ago and realised it's still got the geotagging information attached to the file, which means any stranger on the internet can locate the place I took the picture, which was outside my house... And that didn't serve me very happy...

In the end stripped the information using photoshop

Yeah, I've considered that. I think that you should be able to turn it off.

good thoughts! but it only prompts you to allow the use of location information on the first run, and the location service switch is a little bit too crude even in 3.0 in this respect. probably they really should've made the management a little bit easier.

i mean i don't mind my other pictures say when i'm touring a town to be identifiable and it does make photo management and post-processing a little bit easier. what i am concerned about is that this information slips into the public domain often without you evening noticing it.

maybe there either the photo sharing website, iphone os or iphoto shall add an option to strip out sensitive information like such during export than crude file copies.

I guess though the concern is when you forget to turn it off.

You take a picture of your car/ or you computer, or whatever.

Someone sees it and fancies it. They know from the geo-tag where you live if they want to pay you a visit to steal it,

well that may be, but i would like it to be on for most other pictures that i take which is meant to be personal in the 1st place. and of course there're thousands and thousands brilliant location based apps. aroundme is excellent, so if of course the google maps and lots of other location based service that i use.

perhaps then the best solution is to strip the information out when you publish your photo. just some random thoughts, of course if you have a rolls-royce phantom iv in your garage, i suppose thieves know where you live anyway and so do the press, so do those who google/google earth you...
