conecting to a HDTV

Hey guys!
I have few questions that I can't solve after hours of geting crazy!

I have an iMac 27 and I want to connect it to a HDTV samsung 46 full HD. I have conected from displayport to HDMI and i get the screen. But at the same time I have connected a 3,5 minijack from the computer to the RCA audio in of the TV but I dont get sound. I have checked the config of the TV and I dont find any place to activate it.

Then, talking about the screen. I have few questions.
How can I stop the screen on the iMac and work only with the HDTV?
How can I config that the windows on the tv have bigger letters while they keep on the same way on the i Mac's screen?

The tv is kind of far away and is difficult to see the letters.

If you have one of the 2010 iMac, they support transferring audio via mDP > HDMI adapter (if it is the correct one, Apple or MonoPrice can help you find them).

As you use a digital input for video and an analog input for audio, maybe your TV is not capable of having two connections per channel? Take a look at the manual, if it supports video via one input and audio via another input.

Change the resolution of the external monitor in System Preferences > Displays.

As the iMac has a bigger resolution than your TV and if MIRROR DISPLAYS is de-selected, you can change the resolution of the external TV as you like.
If you select MIRROR DISPLAYS, you can change the resolution too, but whatever resolution you choose for the iMac, it will be the same resolution for the TV, and as the TV has a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 (maybe even lower, depending on what TV you have), the iMac will "mirror" that resolution.

Yeah, I don't know of any HDTV that allows you to input audio on a separate cable from the HDMI.

Check to make sure your HDTV supports a separate audio source for HDMI input some don't.

You could try setting up a hot corner to sleep the display I don't know if that will sleep the tv too or not. As for the last question go into you display settings in system prefs and change the resolution for the tv.

Everything that you said works! there is only one thing that not. the audio!

I didn't know that new iMacs suport audio via mini displayport. Mine is one week old so I guess it must to suport. When i bought it I got this adapter:

Made in Sweden and in the web it says that it suports audio. But it does not on my computer. Should I config something? I have been looking around and I dont find a place where you can connect or disconnect the audio that goes out from the mDP
