Depends Greatly On The Weather
When I start up in Bootcamp I get this error message saying my config file is missing and that I need to insert the windows cd and restart and press r but that does not work.

How can I fix this? This is on my Macbook which I use solely for Windows and the partition is very very important so I cannot lose it.

Thanks alot

What format is your windows partition in. If it is FAT32 then boot into OS X, pull the Config file of the Cd and put it in it's rightful place.

Or you could bootup with the disc in and "repair" the install (I think the windows installer comes with something like that)

Unfortunately you can only convert from FAT32 to NTFS not the other war around.

Does it boot at all, if you hold down F8 while booting you might be able to get to the Last known good configuration screen.

What is the actual name of the file missing with extensions, because you can search Microsoft's Knowledge base to try and find a solution.

This link has some information about something similar. I'm not too hot on repair windows, whenever i had a problem like this in the past i just nuked it and started over, but i understand your data is important so am trying my best to help.

The file is called

windows/system32/config/system

It says it is either missing or corrupt.

F8 does not let me repair it, it says I must hold down r when I boot up but nothing happens.

Thanks

Try following the steps here

IT would be prudish to make a backup of what you can before you try.

You should be able to pull any important documents off your windows partition while in OSX.

I know this is a bit off topic but why get a macbook if you're solely using it for Windows?

Just fyi it has been fixed.

then maybe you'd be nice enough to share your solution?
