Configuration of RAM in AMD 6630 Mini

I know there's 4 Gig of Ram. Is that 2 & 2 or is that 4 with an open slot? If it's 2, would an upgrade to 6 gig(2 original plus 4 purchased) be a good number or should I go all the way up to 8(replace both sticks)? Thanks

I tell everyone with the base mini (2gb) buy 8gb now because it is low priced and could go up.

but since you have 4gb in a pair of 2gb sticks.
just run with the 4gb to see what you do.
look at activity monitor in your utility programs. look for page outs and ram used. vs ram free. if you always have 1gb of free ram you would be good.

the 2011 mini in oem 4gb is a pair of 2gb sticks.

Can I upgrade with one of the sticks left at 2 and a new 4 gig stick? Do the cards have to be of the same size? I've never done this so I don't know. Pretty sure I'm going to want at least 6

It's possible they may not need to be the same but performance wouldn't be as good as with a matched pair. It's best to use a matched pair if possible.

Your machine (I have the same one) comes as 2 x 2GB RAM modules.
It will work with a 2GB stick and a 4GB stick (for 6GB total), but as noted above, memory speed will be optimized with two matched modules. Depending on what you do, it may or may not make a noticeable difference.

But since the price of an 8GB kit (2x4GB) is only around $74, it's reasonable to just go the full 8GB. Sell/trade the original memory on eBay to make back a few bucks if you wish.
