Configure Messages in server and clients

Hello,
I want to run a simple local chat application for my office lan, and I cannot seem to get the thing configured.

All I want to do is setup the chat server on my local server and have the users be able to connect to it from their desktop using iMessages.

I tried to connect as a jabber client but it is saying my account will not authenticate with the server.

Is there anything special I am supposed to do? I am using the same login for the users as they connect to the server as local network accounts now...

Try Todd Olthoffs YouTube Tutorial on the Messages service for OS X Server ? His tutorials are pretty good and may help you out.

I found this helpful blog entry not too long after it was posted a few years ago, making the mistake of searching for "iMessages", forgetting that it's Messages in the newer OSes. I've upgraded my local servers to Sierra and it's still working fine on the new OS (whew!).
