I want to setup my Netgear router so that it dos not show in the airport screen and one needs to click on the Join other network option and type something in to gain access to it. How can I do this? Also once done will my iPhone be able to gain access?

The previous post is correct. Configuring the router to not broadcast its SSID will mean that it won't show up on various systems (including Apple) "available networks." This means you will need to go to "Join Network" and correctly type in the name of the network, and the password. Yes, you will be able to connect with iOS devices this way.
