Hi.

I have a 2010 Mac Pro which, as I understand it, is SATA 2.

I want to buy a 3TB disk and most of them seem to be SATA 3. From what I read it seems like the connectors are the same and it should work fine ( limited to SATA 2 bus speed, although unlikely to be a problem for a HDD!).

Can anyone confirm that my understanding is correct please?

Thanks.

Matt

yep theyll work. no HDD can even max out SATA II, only a few SATA I.
Only a SATA III SSD will be limited by the SATA II bus.

It will run exactly the same on SATA2 as it would on SATA3. The fact these HDD manufacturers push the new link as being in any way faster with their single HDD is capitalism at it's best.

Thanks guys. It wasn't speed issues I was concerned about, I just wanted to be sure there'd be no problem compatibility wise. Especially given the premium on HD prices at the moment!
