iPod confirmation: Classic Ipod Dead in current form. turns into touch fat

If you mean Apple's gonna put a hard drive in a Touch and make it thicker... not gonna happen. A hard drive would introduce too much lag to the Touch's user interface. It's bad enough on the classic, on the Touch it would be intolerable.
With the Touch (probably) making the move to 64 GB this year, the hard drive based iPod's days are numbered.

Most of the UI lag isn't even the fault of the Hard Drive, no other Hard Drive based iPods lag as much as the classic. You can tell it isn't the hard drive when the song is already playing and you can't change the volume. That said, I don't think Apple would waste their time with a touch/ classic hybrid.
The classic and the long-dead mini were the only iPods with a HDD anyway (classic obviously referring to the original iPod and iPod video models, as they are ultimately part of the same line) - unless Im missing your point...

Also, with the touch going to 64GB this year, the need for the Classic due to it's capacity is decreasing. A year or two from now, flash memory will exceed the Classic's capacity.
Hopefully it does. I really want to see a touch-screen Classic with 128GB. No fancy apps like the Touch but still a touch-screen interface instead of the click-wheel. Basically just the touch interface from the Touch's iPod app... No more.
I wonder if those haptic feedback patents for the iPhone could make it on some sort of Bigger iPod (classic successor) with no fancy processor/graphics/ram, mainly meant for music and videos, no iPod touch rumored camera etc. Safari, notes and some more native Apps, wifi of course, BT as well, it could still be fatter than the iPod touch in order to have more Flash.
Could be a bit of a niche product but with the possibilities of the touch screen "scroll wheel" I can see it having some success.

Yes, of course expanded memory in the Touch is probably only a matter of time, at which point the classic, unfortunately, will be discontinued.

Don't see this happening either.
The app store is a major cash cow for Apple. The more touch based devices the better since Apple will sell more apps.
Also, thin seems to be Apple's idea with the touch so I don't see a thick one. But who knows, maybe a thicker touch with more flash memory might happen one day.
I would venture to say, that within 2-3 years the Classic model will be discontinued.
