I've already bought and unlocked 2 iPhones with 1.0.2 but now my dad wants me to buy him an iPhone in the US this weekend. I know it will likely have 1.1.1. already installed on it.

I'm having trouble following the current state of things for some reason, so can someone confirm for me if I'm right on this one:

Options:
1. Buy a new iPhone with 1.1.1 and unlock using iFuntastic and I'm done
2. Buy a new iPhone with 1.1.1 and downgrade the firmware to 1.0.2 and then use www.iphonesimfree.com (or iFuntastic, I guess) to unlock the newly converted 1.0.2. phone.

I just want to make sure I don't buy this for him thinking I can unlock it and then get it back to the frozen north and have a problem.

Thanks in advance!

if you're phone is 1.1.1 out of the box, then i think you still have to peg it back down to 1.02 activate etc.. and then upgrade to 1.1.1 then re-activate/jailbreak etc..

iFuntastic (plus other tools, ie, independence/anysim etc..) should be able to do all of that for you :)

good luck!

i have a virgin 1.1.1 that activated and jailbreak by using Carnaval. It is easy and mostly automated.
