Wallpaper has not been confirmed as lost for the 3G.

The version of iPhone OS 4.0 that is out is the first beta, until we get the final release nothing can be confirmed.

Someone around here had tried to change the wallpaper on their iPod Touch 2nd gen, and couldn't. They searched around and apparently Apple was aware of it and said it will be fixed. So apparently it is supposed to be enabled.

just jb my 3g on 4.0 and typed in the strings to enable mt and wallpapers. runs so much better in my 3gs while the 3g lags.

Just tried this on my 3G, it works but the animations are really choppy after enabling this. Maybe it's not optimized for the 3G yet, or is the jailbreak slowing the device down. But for now, it works much better without a wallpaper.

Well, I'm going back to 3.1.3 anyway so...

Hmmm, hopefully its just a bug cause my chance to upgrade ain't till November. I find it hard to believe a static image would lag the system.

This doesn't "confirm" anything.

Put it this way, after everything we've seen the iPhone 3G do in terms of apps/games, if it can't display a still image behind the apps on the home screen then it was as much use as a piss soaked rag to begin with.

It's a still image, even with gradients and shadows ... there's no excuse.

So what apple's telling us it that we would get the same performance from a JB iphone 3g if we didn't have a wallpaper?
Apple just leave us on 3.1.3 why don't you?

Ok, question, does this mean the iPhone 3G loses functionality it has now? Or is this just a feature to let you have a wallpaper behind the icons (I was under the impression you could change the image on your "home screen", the one that shows up everytime you turn on the iphone, that still stays the same, right?).

I mean it would be nice to be able to change backgrounds behind hte icons, but I wouldn't be too upset if we couldn't. I'd be upset though if we lost functionality that we had before the new OS.

You aren't losing any features, you're just not getting some new ones.

The only apps that can multitask right now are the native apps. You were only multitasking iPod and mail.

the homescreen wallpaper issue is a BUG that apple are well aware of..... I myself reported the wallpaper issue to be told they were already aware

It's time for an upgrade, I see.

In all honesty, while I may be dissapointed with the lack of multitasking and backgrounds, the iPhone 4G just keeps looking better and better.

July, hury soon.

I'm finding 4.0 doesn't like as many images as all previous firmwares did, the wallpaper I had under 3.1.3 on my lockscreen does not work under 4.0 so I definitely cant wait for beta 2 update
