I'm planning on buying an iPhone this weekend and if it has 1.1.2 firmware on it am I correct in assuming a few things... After I activate Safari and go to jailbreakme.com and install appsnap, do I just use anySIM in the installer.app, swap out the AT&T card for mine and that's all?

I bought iphonesimfree.com's activation for my first iPhone a few months ago but I'm not sure if this is necessary any longer.

Thanks in advance!

There is no REAL jailbreak for 1.1.2. First, you have to downgrade to 1.1.1, then use jailbreakme.com, then install OktoPrep, then upgrade to 1.1.2, but that could possibly be broken now that 1.1.3 is out.

Jailbreak for 1.1.2 is still available even though 1.1.3 is out!

Follow this excellent guide which is in three parts. iTunes will no longer let you automatically upgrade back to 1.1.2, but there is a manual work around which is explained in the third section of the guide which has been updated in the last 24 hours.

yes this is still possible if you can find a 1.1.2 iphone. most stores stop selling the 1.1.2 iphones almost immediately and being selling with the most updated firmware.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/3B48a Safari/419.3)

I'd be very surprised if it doesn't take a week or two to clear existing stocks of 1.1.2 iPhones.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I don't care about running 1.1.2 I just want to know what the procedure is if I buy one that has 1.1.2 on it.

If I can do the 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 downgrade, install apptapp and activate the phone through OKtoPREP in installer.app I'm good.

Just to clarify once and for all, I don't need to pay the iphonesimfree fee to have it activated, right?

As a bit of a related question. I already have an iphone unlocked and activated with 1.1.1 Is it worth the upgrade the 1.1.2 or should I wait until 1.1.3 is cleared?

i bought my iPhone the day after the keynote. i bought mine 2 days ago on Wednesday. and it still had 1.1.2 on it. liek someone said about it will take a a week or so give or take the location you buy from to start selling OTB 1.1.3

According to this first link, a 1.1.2 iPhone cannot be sim unlocked unless it was upgraded from 1.1.1. Is that true? So you can only jailbreak it if you bought it with 1.1.2?

Can someone clarify that for me?

Yes this is true.

You can only Jailbreak an iPhone that comes with the 1.1.2 firmware pre-installed.... once jailbroken you can only use the company sim associated woith your region.... eg if you live in UK you can use any O2 sim card, whether it be payandgo or contract, AT&T for USA, Orange for france, and so on....

The jailbreaking process 'hack-tivates' the phone, (fooling iTunes into thinking it has been activated) and therefor you can install 3rd Party Apps and use a non-iphone tariff sim (from the regional company as stated above.)

Does this answer your question?

anyone? I'd really like to make sure this is 100% clear to me. I'm getting a phone tomorrow and anticipate it having 1.1.2 on it. If so, can I just downgrade it to 1.1.1, jailbreak it and then run anySIM through installer.app to activate the phone?
