I thought I read somewhere that the new Cloverton chips will use RAM other than the FB-DIMMs that the Mac Pro currently requires. So if I load up my Mac Pro with memory, and I opt to surgically change out the Woodcrests for Clovertons when they're available, is my RAM screwed?

No. Clovertowns will not use different memory.

That and the RAM support is still in the northbridge, not the CPU. So if you swapped out Clovertowns in your current Mac Pro, you will still need FB-DIMMs since that is what the chipset needs...

Now, Intel is moving away from FB-DIMMs in their server chipsets, but that might not happen for another year or so.
