confused about creating a website...help!

Hi all! I've just registered a domain name and I want to get started with making my website!

I'm trying to pick a webhosting service, and I'm confused about what I need to look out for in terms of Mac-specific issues (if there are any?)

me: have domain name, Adobe Dreamweaver

So do I just use a Dreamweaver to design the site and upload it, and this is all Mac/Windows independent. Or is there something Mac specif that I need to look out for?

I was thinking about using Network Solutions as a webhosting, and got confused when they were talking about "your choice of Unix or Windows platform..."

You should be fine with a Linux box, you'll get the use of PHP and MySQL. And you don't have to look for any particular hosting just because you have OS X. An html file is and html file to all operating systems.

Windows is for ASP coding, MSSQL, and things of the sort.
 
Chico is right. The great thing about websites is that they are relatively OS independent. Webdesign on a Mac is a little different than doing so on a PC, however.

For example, its important to make pages look great in Safari, but also in Internet Explorer on Windows and a number of other popular web browsers. That said, with tools like Parallels and IE Capture its all painless. Please take a look at this thread for more great resources:

True, however the browser interprets these files, not the OS.

It wasn't my intention to say so, but thank you for clarification. I brought up Windows only because Internet Explorer is a Windows only application (that accounts for more than half of the total browser market share).

That's referring to what OS the server is running. If you have a choice, then pick Unix unless you have some specific reason otherwise (but since you're asking, you probably don't ;) ). That doesn't really affect basic web sites, however.
