Hello Forum

In a Mac with spinning disk I have never format my media before creating an USB botable installer

But According with 9to5mac.com:

Do I have to format the media before make a bootable USB installer as Mac OS External (Journaled)
is it because my Mac comes with SSD?

Or it is OK if I don't format my media??

Please advice

Thanks
Camelia

Don't think there is a need to format a thumb drive to create an USB drive, as I seem to recall that the first thing the "create install media" command does is erase and re-format the drive.
But if

Code:
sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Big\ Sur.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume

/createinstallmedia erase and re-format the USB stick...
why I have to to format the media before make a bootable USB installer as Mac OS External (Journaled)?

Thanks

Using that terminal command, you don’t need to format your USB ahead of time to Extended Journaled. The terminal command will take care of that for you.
