So, I have a pre-order to pick up in-store this Friday. They've already charged me for the purchase and the order status is "order in progress", presumably going to stay this way until my assigned time window. Unfortunately, the only free time slot was the very last one of the day, right before the store closing time and because of something unforeseen at work, I might end up missing my time slot. My question is, would I still be able to go the next day to pick up my item (seeing as I've already paid for it), or will I be automatically refunded and the stock gone?
I've asked two Specialists in store and checked online, but each source has given me a somewhat different answer.
Specialist #1: "We will hold it for 6 hours, even if it's the next day"
Specialist #2: "We can't reallocate stock, so if you miss it then it's gone"
Apple email: "If you're unable to come in during this time window, you can still pick up your order, but wait times may vary" (it's unclear if "wait time" includes the next day, or if it means whenever stock is next available, which is presumably late October)
MacRumors 2014 post: "They'll hold it for 20/21 days since I've already paid for it"
MacRumors 2015 post: "Most in-store pickup programs give you a week"
MacRumors 2017 post: "14 days"
Business Insider 2017 post: "You will get reminder emails every week until the 21st day, at which point Apple will refund your order and cancel your purchase"
I'm hoping that they'll keep it for a few days because I've already paid, and that the Specialists confused in-store pick up with in-store reservations where you show up at the agreed time and then pay.
