Confused Singer hoping to buy a imac...

So I am very sorry If there is already something like this out here on these threads...however I wanted to make sure my question was answered instead of relying on other peoples different questions.

I am a singer & I am looking into buying an imac, I know some singers on Youtube who use iMacs and their softwares or whatever for music

Is this the right way to go about getting an iMac? As its such an investment, I want to make sure I will not make a mistake.

Also, Im no smart computer nerd so whats the difference of i3 i5 & i think i7? I want to know which iMac will be good for me, someone who's going to be making lots of my music on there.

Any help will be SO SO SO appreciated!

Almost the entire music recording industry uses Macs exclusively. Most professional D.J's use Macs. You won't have any issues finding software, I assure you.

What do you want to do with your mac?! What do you want to produce music for?! That will help us advise you on which configuration you require?

Do you want to produce professional music tracks, or just a few for you tube?

I just finished a project using Macs to do it and it's up on the itunes store (as well as amazon and several others) as of yesterday:

You can do a lot with a Mac. I'm currently running a Corei7 iMac but was previously using a G5 2.5 dual and a G4/400 before that.

Part of the issue is you need to determine what you want to do. You can do a lot with Garageband actually - you could try that out and see how you like it as what I like about it is that it's simple and easy for writing music.

If you need more complicated situations later you can always look at Logic or Cubase or Nuendo or Digital Performer or Protools.

You will definetely want to invest in a good condenser microphone with pop filter and some sort of shockmount (Guitar Center often has departments devoted to recording, they can sort you out).

Also a small multichannel mixer with USB will help sort your tracks out so the sound can get into the computer.

What screen size are you looking for? Quad cores are only available for 27". If you're getting 21.5", just get the base model with 3.06GHz i3 but if you're getting 27", then you might as well go for the quad core version, possibly a refurb to save $
