new user here: have used mac's since 88 and now I am stumped: have macbook pro and have used pdf files lots in the past: for some reason ibooks now appears when I click on a pdf file (web sourced and files sent to me eg receipts) and the ibook now launches and I cannot open any of the pdf.extentions.
used to use a simple pdf reader (think it was acrobat?)
Do not want to use ibooks : cannot even figure out how it is now my default.

Layman terms feedback please... can anyone help me get back to a simple pdf launcher for OS X elcap 10.11.6 (visual impaired and finding the hunting very tiring)
MUCH appreciated
[doublepost=1522515607][/doublepost]OMG... just answered my own question.. not as stupid as I look right? :~]
selected the file without launching: hit COMMAND info and selected Open with options.
geeeeeez sometimes it's just that simple.

Most likely the default file associations got messed up. Right click a PDF file -> Open with -> Choose Preview (or other PDF viewer) and select Change All..
