If I connected the new 2018 iPad Pro to an external monitor or TV, does it retain the 4:3 aspect ration on the monitor or will it fill the full 16:9. If it retains the 4:3 aspect ratio then what is the benefit of directly connecting the iPad vs using airplay mirroring?

It stays at 4:3 unless you’re playing a video. There’s no difference in connecting via a cable or airplay.

How do you get sound when connected to a monitor with a usb-c to hdmi cord or even with the Apple TV? I talked to Apple today and they had no solution other than contacting HP (my monitor).

Does the HP Monitor have speakers? Sounds like a stupid question but need to confirm before troubleshooting further.

Okay so by default the iPad will send the audio out over the HDMI connection. You could connect a Bluetooth speaker to the iPad then you should have the option of running the audio out to the speaker while the video content is playing on the monitor. I don't think you have the option of external video but keeping the audio through the iPad speakers.

This is what frustrates me. I see the Mr wirelessly connect his devices to our 60" TV & can choose where the audio outputs to while I have to connect my devices using cables. Too old-school

Oh my - that works - I searched and found how to do it in the control panel!!! I can’t believe that the technition did not know about this - or found out when he asked someone.... Well I still have an open ticket - I will respond to it about this....
