I just got a new 3d tv visio 55". I have connected my MacBook to the tv but when I play avi movies it's resolution is not good. Also in the display settings I had to choose 720p for it to fill the whole screen.

What do I need to choose for the movies playing from MacBook look great on the larger screen.

Anyone who can provide step by step instructions.
 
A 55" is a large TV, and depending on the resolution of the .avi file (720 x 406 or something similar) and compression, the visual quality on such big screen will look abysmal.
