I would like to use my laptop PC which has a VGA output on my iMac 24-inch which has mini DVI input. Is there a way that I can use it both ways, so like..

Have two screens for mac - my iMac and PC .. so only pc screen is in use

and vice versa

two screens for PC - my iMac and PC .. so only iMac screen is in use.

would i be able to get a mini dvi to vga converter and connect that to my PC?
if possible what would i have to do after connecting it to get it working?

Thanks

So does that mean I will be able to use it as an external screen for my pc or can i use my pc as an external screen for it?

Once i connect it is there anything else i need to do? or will it just automatically work as an external screen.

umm... didn't the OP say he has a laptop PC? which would imply not a separate monitor. I doubt the VGA port on a PC laptop will accept input; it's most likely output only.

No you will not be able to use your laptop as a display, however if you have an external display connected to your Windows laptop you can also use that with the iMac, all you need is the appropriate cables and you're set.

The 24" iMac does not have a port to accept video-in.
The PC laptop almost certainly has a VGA OUTPUT port, which means it will not accept video-in either.
So...a simple cable will NOT work.
