Connect to SQL Server database from Cocoa application

I am a Mac newbie.

Could anyone explain me the steps to access Microsoft SQL Server 2005 from Cocoa on Mac OS X 10.5.

The database driver should be free if possible.
If FreeTDS is the only option please advice me on how to make it work.

Thanks in advance
Jose

Basic question. Have you logged into the MSDN site/Microsoft site to see if a driver is available for SQL Server for other platforms other than Windows?

There is a Java driver, but that doesn't help you.

Slightly off-topic, but I really hope that in Snow Leopard Apple FINALLY gives us a standard way to access databases akin to JDBC. One of the biggest things stopping more mac devs from using Cocoa over technologies such as Java and perl/python/etc is that they have really poor DB access tools, for the most part you have to get the C drivers then provide wrappers around them.

This is not only a pain, it is very much db dependent....come on Apple...
