Connect to Two iPhones?

Hi there,

I carry two iPhones with me, one given to me by my work and the other is my personal phone. I like to keep them separate because work has access to everything I do on that phone and I also like to be able to shut it off when I'm not on call and not think about work. I'm excited about the Apple Watch but am wondering if it is going to be possible to have both phones connect to it at the same time - or if it will allow me to switch between phone numbers based on whether I'm working or not. Any ideas about whether or not this will be a possibility?

Interesting question but too early to tell. It can also be asked as 2 aWatches to 1 iPhone.

What we do know: All aWatch Apps must be on the iPhone with a WatchKit extension. The iPhone's WatchKit extension of the App is where all the 'heavy lifting' takes place. So any App on the aWatch would have to be on both iPhones. Also the iPhone will have a master/controller App for the aWatch and would have to be on both iPhones.

What we believe to be (all but known): The aWatch and iPhone will communicate with each other using BT-LE and WiFi hotspot, very similar to the way AirPlay works.

Speculation: The iPhone master/controller App will have a way of selecting which aWatch to pair with. You could then pair with the iPhone you are using.

Caveat: Health App/HealthKit doesn't (I believe) support multiple a iPhones for a single user and your health info may be divided between the iPhones giving an incomplete picture. Of course you are already dealing with that in some way if using 2 iPhones.

I think you could connect both phone to it, but at the same time? I doubt it.

I think matrix is probably right. I was wondering this to because I might end up with a second iPhone as a work phone soon so it will be interesting to see what happens.

I posed this same question a couple of months ago..... However I don't actually think it matters that much as think there will be an easy workaround......

I have two iphones - a 6 for personal, and a 6 Plus for work. I have handoff set up on both devices so that both ring when called on either number, and messages (email, iMessage and SMS) come through to both. I find this beneficial as means I only really need to have one device out at a time, so long as the other is on my person or in my bag.

I assume therefore that with this setup, all alerts would appear on the watch even if it was paired with only one of the phones. In terms of other notifications, you would just need to ensure you have the relevant apps on the phone that is synced or on both as relevant.

doesn't this only work when both phones are on the same Wi-Fi network though ?

I'd like to know if I can have 2 Apple Watches working with 1 iPhone. I am buying 2 Apple Watches, 1 for Work and 1 for all other times. I hope they will all remain in sync with each other

Not just two iPhones, but what about two iDevices period? My car can connect to both my iPhone and iPad simultaneously. Which is great because I can be playing a playlist or podcast from the iPad, yet still answer a phone call. I would hate to have to specifically link the Apple Watch that I plan to buy to only my iPhone but in full disclosure, it won't stop me from standing in line on release day to get my Apple Watch.

This has been asked by other devs in the Apple forum, and since the NDA is looser, I can tell you about it.

According to Apple (info comes from an employee),  Watch syncs with a single iPhone. Not more than one, not iPads. One watch will hold hands with exactly one iPhone.

Any word or idea about 2 aWatches to one iPhone? Some may want a dress SS or Edition and a Sport for play. For instance can 2 aWatches provide daily Health tracking/HR data to the Activity and Health apps for one person?

No word that I've seen anywhere
I would assume it's going to be a one-to-one connection, but take that with a pound of salt as that is a slightly below educated guess.
