I plan to connect my ATV1 to my receiver with HDMI and the optical output to the optical input on my receiver, the HDMI out from the receiver to the TV. Is this right or should I jsut use HDMI alone into the receiver and HDMI to the TV, forget the optical?

thanks

HDMI from the ATV to your receiver is all you need to do. That's what I have, and it pumps out 5.1 audio perfectly.

FWIW, the ATV1 has a separate analog (2-channel) audio output which you can use for a Zone 2 if your receiver has that feature.

Depends on whether or not your receiver can utilize audio on HDMI.

Mine can not, so I also use the optical cables for audio.

thanks. why do some people coonect both hdmi and optical o the receiver?
