This is via a $10 USB-C to HDMI adapter and then HDMI cable into my Sony Bravia.
The mirroring is working but it’s just in a monochromatic pink.

And to make things worse, the AppleTV movie on the iPad isn’t working with no playback on the TV.
Maybe it’s a content protection thing?
So maybe I need to buy the Apple AV HDMI adapter for $69?

I do the same exact thing with my cellular iPad Air 4 to my Samsung TV. I stream Netflix, HBO Max, and Apple TV+. At first I tried a Best Buy open box Apple usb-c/HDMI av display adapter ($58), and it worked well. Then I returned it and bought a $25 Insignia adapter and that also works perfectly.

Check if there’s HDMI settings on the TV that need to be changed, but I suspect it’s the adapter.

Check the settings on your TV. I bet that's where the issue ultimately lies.

Thanks...turns out the cheap adapter worked after trying a whole lot of tweaking in the Display & Brightness settings on my iPad.

Allow Display Mode Changes > On
Preferred Display Setting > Standard Dynamic Range (SDR)

So happy I can now watch AppleTV+ on my large non-AirPlay Sony Bravia!
